"Introduction to Biopharma" curriculum
launched at IBC's 7th Annual Drug Discovery Technology Conference
Boston, MA, August 5,
2002 GeneEd, Inc., the leading provider of advanced
e-Learning solutions for the life science industry, officially launched
its newest Biopharmaceutical R&D catalog courseware entitled
"Introduction to Biopharma". Consisting of a three-course
catalog with "Basics", "Methods" and "Applications"
sections, this curriculum was created in response to user feedback
from non-experts who needed to better understand and service the
Biopharmaceutical industry. The catalog is targeted at non-scientists,
such as IT professionals, sales & marketing staff, attorneys,
the press, and even the lay public interested in learning more about
the life science revolution. Customers who have already signed up
for the curriculum include IBM, Advanced Systems, Bellsouth, the
Triangle Group and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
"The rate at which we were able to develop
the 'Introduction to Biopharma' catalog validates our reusable learning
object content strategy," said John Hathaway, Chief Technology
Officer at GeneEd. "We were able to build a three-course suite
consisting of over 60 lessons in less than a month, thanks to our
patented, proprietary, Repurposing Engine technology, which
enables us to build SCORM 1.2-conformant courseware in a fraction
of the time or cost of comparable organizations." GeneEd's
Repurposing Engine is a workflow process for the creation
of rich, dynamic, and interactive Macromedia Flash-based learning
objects specific to the life and health sciences. It enables organizations
to quickly transform static content into e-Learning, readily deployable
via any SCORM-conformant learning management system.
In addition to this curriculum, GeneEd also offered
the latest enhancements to its suite of "Advanced Biopharmaceutical
Technology" courseware, including "Advanced Bioinformatics",
"SNPs", "Microarrays", and "Methods in
Molecular Biology". The enhanced courses have been revamped
with a new interface, greater in-context information, and an updated
and more comprehensive resources section.
"These new enhancements to our Advanced Life
Science curricula come at a perfect time," said Salil D. Patel,
Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder of GeneEd. "With the
acceptance of gene expression, bioinformatics, and genotyping and
haplotyping as routine methods for target discovery and validation,
our enhanced suite of Advanced Biopharmaceutical Technology courses
allows expert and novice alike to quickly and effectively become
productive with these cutting-edge tools."
GeneEd continues to develop its R&D catalog
while it also works to bring out courseware in therapeutic areas,
disease states, and SOP and regulatory affairs training for large
pharmaceutical clients such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and others.
Independent experts were used in the development and validation
of the advanced suite. One such expert is Nat Goodman, Senior Research
Scientist at the Institute for Systems Biology (Seattle, WA) and
a monthly columnist for Genome Technology magazine, who stated,
"GeneEd's bioinformatics courseware provides excellent content
in a remarkably understandable format. They take hard concepts,
like microarray clustering, break them down into understandable
pieces, and then illustrate the pieces using Flash animations."
Goodman continues, "It adds up to a very efficient way to learn
the subject. There's a lot of great online courseware on the web,
but GeneEd is the place to go if you want to learn a lot without
spending a lot of time."
The GeneEd catalog courses described here are
available from the GeneEd web-site, (http://www.GeneEd.com)
commencing immediately. Individual purchases can be made with a
credit card, and group, academic and non-profit discounts are available.
Purchases include unlimited access to the courses for each user
for a period of twelve months. For more information on any of the
courses within the Biopharmaceutical R&D catalog, please contact
